Business valuation calculator
Enter your industry and normalised earnings; get an enterprise-value range. Then apply the six factors that materially move multiples within a category. Every input carries its own source citation.
Methodology
- Base range. Uses the 2026 M&Apedia multiples data for the selected industry and deal-size band. See the underlying 2026 Home-Services M&A Multiples Report for the full data plus category notes.
- Metric selection. For earnings below $1M, the calculator prices off SDE (seller’s discretionary earnings) because that’s how sub-$1M businesses are actually valued in practice — with owner comp included. Above $1M, it prices off EBITDA.
- Adjustments. The six adjustments are the factors that most reliably move a specific company’s multiple within its industry band. Impact magnitudes are practitioner rules-of-thumb, not precise; they widen or narrow the base range rather than replacing it.
- What this doesn’t include. Working-capital targets, escrow, indemnity holdbacks, and rollover equity all live below the enterprise-value line. Use the net-proceeds calculator to translate EV into cash-at-close and net-to-seller.
